Two Chinese labs shipped open-weight models days apart that claim to sit level with the closed frontier: Moonshot's 2.8-trillion-parameter Kimi K3 and Z.ai's MIT-licensed GLM-5.1, which tops a brutal coding benchmark. The scores are still self-reported, and the catch is buried in the word "open": these giants free you from the API, not from the data-centre.

America Banned China From Its Best AI. Then Sold It Through Singapore.
The Financial Times reports that OpenAI and Google supplied advanced AI to Singapore-registered subsidiaries of Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu, all on a Pentagon blacklist. Anthropic bars them outright and alleges 28 million distilled Claude exchanges. The wall around frontier AI turns out to be leaky, and the labs cannot agree where it should stand.
